{"id":1185,"date":"2007-10-29T14:38:28","date_gmt":"2007-10-29T14:38:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fabricoproprio.net\/leilas-shop\/"},"modified":"2022-11-28T14:39:15","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T14:39:15","slug":"leilas-shop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fabricoproprio.net\/en\/leilas-shop\/","title":{"rendered":"Leila\u2019s Shop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In London we found, thanks to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ciaobethany.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bethany<\/a>, a perfect embassy for Semi-Industrial Portuguese Confectionery.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s called Leila\u2019s Shop, it\u2019s a caf\u00e9\/deli with 3 tables, a counter and a kitchen all in the same room, where breakfast arrives to the table in the pan, UCAL milk is dunk with a straw and where on Sundays (and only on Sundays) there\u2019s natas and bolos de arroz (rice cakes). Leila is the owner and she chooses carefully what she sells in her shop: local vegetables, Polish horseradish and French chocolate. And naturally, some Portuguese pearls like \u00e1gua das pedras (the best carbonated water in the world) and our two most famous cakes.<\/p>\n<p>On the morning of the last Sunday of October it was also selling\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gampermartino.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Martino Gamper\u2019<\/a>s 100 chair books. He even popped in for a coffee (he\u2019s talking on the phone in the last photo \u201cafter the jump\u201d), and after having a chat with him we bought the book.<\/p>\n<p>Leila knows books and cakes are a perfect match.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s on Calvert Avenue, close to Arnold Circus, in Shoreditch.<\/p>\n<p>Leila\u2019s sister,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fidalix.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alix<\/a>\u00a0(who explained us the family\u2019s connections to Portugal), wrote a post on her blog about the shop after our visit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In London we found, thanks to\u00a0Bethany, a perfect embassy for Semi-Industrial Portuguese Confectionery.
