It reached Japan in the 16th century with the first Europeans to have reached the Land of the Rising Sun \u2014 the Portuguese. Since then, it is considered in this country as the dearest and most delicious legacy of this encounter of cultures, and is produced and distributed all over the country, in packages both elaborate and alluring.
