FP+Ferneto: People, Machines, Cakes.

On July 30th the Ritas and Frederico paid a visit to the headquarters of Ferneto, which since our London launch became the project’s special sponsor. We were able to see not only the 100 and 80kg Spiral Mixers (on the photo), but the whole facilities of this company in the industrial complex of Vagos, near Aveiro. We came to the conclusion that Ferneto really does know a lot about Fabrico Próprio: in our definition of Semi-Industrial Portuguese Confectionery we say these cakes to which we’ve been dedicating ourselves are not made by machines, but with machines. That is, they are made by people, every day, using machinery like the one Ferneto produces and distributes all over the country – and also exports to all over the world.

And in Ferneto, more important than the machines, are of course the people: starting with Andreia Afonso, who contacted us first, was in London with us and also gave us a guided tour at Ferneto: today we can say that Andreia is part of the Fabrico Próprio team!

We are particularly proud of Ferneto having chosen to be associated to our project: we feel we share the same values, the same enthusiasm, the same open-mindness and the same curiosity. In the last 18 months we contacted many (almost 39( companies (not only Portuguese) to become associated with us, but in no other we found the same verve and determination in looking to what is Portuguese, to what is ours, and stand by it in such a positive and inspiring way. We are, from the first minute, in total sync with their (very!) young team, and we feel stimulated by its entrepreneurial spirit, and by the challenges it has been posing to us.

Ferneto not only sponsored our London launch, but also supported the whole project by acquiring a significant amount of copies of our book. It will also be supporting the Fabrico Próprio exhibitions in Lisbon in the months of September and October — more details soon…
